Staffing recruits
Taylor: We need to recruit people, get people all hands on deck.
Dave: Pulling back is off the radar for me.
Who is the core, active staff right now?
- Dave Newcum
- Taylor Hales
- Dave Eads
- Howard Fosdick
Taylor: What is the path to being a staff person now?
- Is it an invitation?
- Is it filling a set of requirements?
Newcum: Is there a way to get more people in to help instruct the volunteers, etc?
Eads: How do we decide on any governance proposal?
Taylor + Eads: Let's decide on this proposal at a meeting, preferably one that meets after FGC some Sunday.
Financial report: David Eads
We have about $90 in the bank.
Depositing $520 later this week.
Donor report back: All staff
Newcum
Homework is late!
Taylor
- Called North Shore Country Day (a school).
- Called Dad re: UIC,
- Called Whole Foods.
- Emailed Patagonia.
- Called someone from CPS.
Eads
- North Park University
- University of Chicago
- Set up page on wiki to track!
First Friday report: Taylor
Dave N, Taylor, and Howard showed up, and 9 volunteers showed up.
Build tracking / reserving a computer
Taylor: Should we allow people to put a note on their build sheet that says "personal project, don't touch", etc.
Newcum: Do you build your computer after or before the 24 hours is up?
Taylor: There's a ton to build right now.
Newcum: Is it that components aren't tested?
Taylor: Motherboards, mainly.
Taylor: Ultimately, people shouldn't reserve systems for build.
Newcum: Could we have Friday and Sunday shelves?
Taylor: It is reasonable for people to reserve the system they'll take home. Maybe we can hold a system for two weeks.
Eads: I'd add that we need to make it clear that there's no presumption you get to work on a single system or a system of their choosing.
Agreed policy
- Earned system must be built after 24 hours of service.
- While in the program volunteers have no right to reserve or claim any piece of hardware.
- Staff will explain this policy explicitly during orientation.
- Volunteers who have completed 24 hours may reserve a machine for up to two weeks to be built.
Proposed: Cheap volunteer upgrade
Taylor proposes, during the transition from PIII to P4, to have some kind of discount for volunteers.
Eads proposes: A minimum and maximum spec.
Next step: Taylor will make formal proposal at next meeting.
Proposal: Rip off Windows license stickers from systems
All agreed.
Space organization
Taylor: Build all the systems that are laying around.
Taylor: Doing recycling piecemeal -- volunteers could load out a van or truck on Fridays.
Data destruction and drive wiping on laptops
Nothing needs to be said, we need to do it.
Upcoming schedule
- Next staff meeting: Sunday the 30th, special governance edition
